Amanda Servedio Death, Obituary: Woman cyclist struck and killed during high speed chase through Astoria on Tuesday night: NYPD
An Astoria woman tragically lost her life after being struck by a hit-and-run driver who was attempting to evade police during a high-speed chase on Tuesday night.
The incident unfolded in the Dutch Kills neighborhood, where officers from the 114th Precinct were pursuing a black Dodge Ram pickup truck that matched the description of a vehicle involved in an ongoing burglary on Crescent Street, near the Dutch Kills Playground.
The pursuit began just before 11 p.m. when police attempted to pull over the Dodge Ram. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated and fled eastbound on 34th Avenue, reportedly reaching high speeds.
As the vehicle raced through the intersection at 37th Street, it collided with a cyclist, throwing her off her bike and into a parked, unoccupied BMW 328i. Eyewitnesses reported hearing the crash and seeing the truck speed away from the scene immediately after the impact.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived promptly and transported the victim to Elmhurst Hospital, but despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The victim was identified as Amanda Servedio, a 36-year-old resident of 31st Avenue in Astoria, just two blocks from where the fatal accident occurred. Friends and family are devastated by the loss, remembering Amanda as a vibrant and caring individual who touched the lives of many.
In the aftermath of the incident, police recovered the abandoned Dodge Ram pickup truck at 46-15 Newtown Road, where it was found with ghost plates and front-end damage.
The three masked suspects who had fled from the truck were last seen running from the scene, and as of now, there have been no arrests made in connection with this case.
The investigation is ongoing, with police appealing to the public for any information related to the incident. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any details about the suspects to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
