Cawthon, a devoted Christian, began his career in game production by creating self-funded Christian adventure games. Cawthon’s first professional game was named Iffermoon. He attended the Art Institute of Houston in 1996, where he learned how to make computer graphics, but he taught himself how to design games with the Clickteam Fusion engine. Pilgrim’s Progress (2012) and The Desolate Hope (2012) are two of Cawthon’s most prominent religious efforts. Pilgrim’s Progress is a JRPG-style game based on a theological allegory, including enemies such as Beelzebub, Apollyon, Shame, and Giant Despair.
