Michael Raimondi, a 10th grader at Somers High School, was killed after a man shot him, his brother, and their mother at their home Monday evening.

Fernando Jimenez, 40, was detained by New York State Police after reportedly shooting one adult and two children, one male and one female, around 11:35 p.m. at the Crossroads family housing complex in Baldwin Place. Jimenez fled the scene toward Peekskill Hollow Road in Putnam Valley, prompting New York State Police to launch a manhunt Tuesday morning. He was arrested and put into custody at approximately 11 a.m.

According to authorities, one victim has died, and two are being treated at nearby hospitals. Jimenez was familiar with the victims, according to investigators. A neighbor who declined to be identified said she spotted Jimenez for the first time on Sunday, standing outside smoking a cigarette. She claimed he was staring at the woman who lives there, who was in her car.

During a 10:30 a.m. press conference, Somers Town Supervisor Rob Scorrano described the incident as a “domestic violence event.” He confirmed one fatality. “We are still waiting to hear about the others. “The most important thing, our heart and prayers going out to the family and to the victims,” according to him. “Somers is a tightly knit community. I am confident that we will all rally behind this awful occurrence.”

A significant police presence was visible on Peekskill Hollow Road Tuesday morning as authorities sought for Jimenez. He was believed to be armed at the time of the search, so people were advised to stay indoors. Putnam Valley Central School Putnam Valley Central School District schools were closed for the day owing to police action in the neighbourhood.
