Jordan Immanuel Davis Obituary, Death: 30-year-old identified as man shot dead in the middle of south Birmingham street
Authorities have identified the victim of a tragic shooting that occurred over the weekend in a south Birmingham neighborhood. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Tuesday that the deceased man is Jordan Immanuel Davis, a 30-year-old resident of Birmingham.
The grim discovery was made early Saturday morning on 24th Avenue South, a street located just off the busy Green Springs Highway.
According to Sgt. Bryan Shelton of the Birmingham Police Department, officers were alerted to the scene around 6:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Davis unresponsive. Medics pronounced him dead at 6:26 a.m.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing what they described as a commotion followed by gunfire, but specific details surrounding the incident remain unclear.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Davis’s death, and the investigation is ongoing. The case will be forwarded to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be pursued.
“Truly, any homicide is a tragedy, and our hearts go out to the family,” Sgt. Shelton expressed on Saturday. “Our investigators will work diligently to try to bring some closure to the family.”
This incident marks the 131st homicide in Birmingham this year. Of these cases, nine have been classified as justifiable, and two others involve victims who were killed in previous years but succumbed to their injuries in 2024.
The broader Jefferson County area has seen a total of 165 homicides this year, which includes the cases reported in Birmingham. The alarming rate of violence has raised concerns among community leaders and residents alike.
