Gursimran Kaur, a 19-year-old with a bright future ahead of her, tragically lost her life in a horrifying incident that has shaken the community of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
On the evening of October 19th, Gursimran was found burned to death inside a walk-in oven at the Walmart Bakery located on Mumford Road. The details surrounding her death are under investigation, but the devastating circumstances have left her family and community heartbroken.
Gursimran, a young woman filled with hope and ambition, had come to Canada with dreams of a better life. She and her mother had both been working at Walmart for the past two years, and the two shared a close bond, living and working side by side as they navigated life in a new country.
On that fateful Saturday night, Gursimran’s mother, like any concerned parent, began to worry after not seeing or hearing from her daughter for over an hour during their shift.
Initially, her inquiries to co-workers were met with nonchalance, as it was assumed that Gursimran was simply busy assisting a customer. Walmart is a vast superstore, after all, and it was not uncommon for employees to move about throughout the day.
However, as time passed and Gursimran’s phone remained unreachable, her mother’s concern grew. Gursimran was never one to switch off her phone during the day, especially without warning, making her mother’s growing sense of dread all the more palpable.
As panic set in, her mother sought help from the store’s onsite administration team, hoping to find her daughter. After a tense and agonizing search, the unimaginable happened.
Someone pointed out the walk-in oven in the bakery section, and when Gursimran’s mother opened the door, she was met with the horrifying sight of her daughter’s charred remains.
