MTSU Death: Student died by suicide at Walker Library in Middle Tennessee State University

A student at Middle Tennessee State University took their own life at the university library on Monday afternoon. A female student fell to their death at the MTSU’s James E. Walker Library on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Middle Tennessee State University released the following statement urging everyone to stay away from the scene of the incident; “MPD is investigating an incident this afternoon in which a student died by suicide on the MTSU campus inside James E. Walker Library.

There is no immediate threat to the campus. The library is closed until further notice. Murfreesboro Police is heading the investigation.”

Murfreesboro TN Police Department confirmed the student was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. The individual identified only as a female student of the university jumped from the fourth floor of the James E. Walker Library.

Over a dozen first responder vehicles, including the MTSU University Police Department and Murfreesboro Police Department, responded to the incident in the James E. Walker Library Monday afternoon. Law enforcement said that the library will remain closed due to the investigations. “library will remain closed for the rest of the day and will hold writing center sessions online.” Prayers for the family of the student, the school community, and Murfreesboro residents affected by the death.
