Peter Lynch Rioter Suicide: Prisoner linked to anti-immigration riots in UK takes own life in South Yorkshire’s HMP Moorland

A grandpa arrested for violent disruption and attacking police during an anti-immigrant riot this summer has become the first rioter to die in prison. Peter Lynch, 61, who was characterized as a conspiracy theorist in court, is believed to have committed suicide on Saturday night at HMP Moorland near Doncaster in South Yorkshire, according to prison service sources.

Lynch was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison on August 22 after pleading guilty to violent disorder at a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court. Lynch was accused of going to the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers, Rotherham, on August 4 with a sign calling police officers, MPs, and the media “corrupt”. Lynch yelled “racist and provocative remarks” at cops and referred to asylum seekers in the hotel as “child killers,” according to Sheffield Recorder Judge Jeremy Richardson KC, during his sentencing.

Peter Lynch Death Investigations

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will now probe his death in custody. A jail service spokesman stated, “HMP Moorland prisoner Peter Lynch died on October 19, 2024. As with all fatalities in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation.
